What Is Openfit?

A health and fitness app called Openfit provides live classes, on-demand workouts and programs, and dietary tracking.

Openfit was established in 2018 by Jon Congdon, a co-founder of Beachbody, and provides an all-inclusive solution to help anyone feel fitter and healthier. If you’ve previously enjoyed Beachbody’s workouts, Openfit might be the best choice for you since its philosophy and method of fitness seem to be very similar to theirs.

The partnership between the two companies also allows Openfit to take advantage of all the expertise Beachbody has in terms of online workout videos (Beachbody essentially created the category 20+ years ago).

A quarterly or yearly subscription to Openfit gives you access to its website, mobile app, and streaming TV service (ideal for watching workouts alone).

How Does Openfit Work?

When you sign up for Openfit, you take a brief but detailed quiz that asks about your body stats; what you are trying to achieve with Openfit (like “lose weight,” “build mass,” “improve fitness,” sleep better,” “increase endurance,” and “relieve stress”); how many days a week you want to exercise; if and when you want workout reminders; and what kind of sessions you want to do, among Pilates/barre, HIIT, kickboxing, yoga, weightlifting, stretches, walking on a treadmill, and meditation are all effective exercises.

From there, it directs you to a dashboard where you can reserve your spot in a live class, revisit one of those live classes on-demand, sign up for one of five programs (a collection of pre-recorded videos that are more produced than the live ones), and/or join one of the two meal-plan programs.

The live classes and programs can be distinguished clearly from one another. You can turn on the camera on your computer or smartphone before a live class in order for the instructor to see you and provide feedback and encouragement, but doing so is optional. There aren’t many people for the trainer to keep track of because each class has a limit of 50 participants.

Because of this, some classes fill up quickly, so it’s crucial to register in advance. There is also a chat window where you can share instant messages and see the names of the people in your class, but not their videos.

Features Of Openfit

Main Programs

Every day, a wide variety of classes are offered by Openfit, but they are divided into five different categories. You can plan which workout you want to attend by looking at the daily schedule of different times posted by a group of live instructors.

You can still access the workouts whenever you want and simply stream them to your phone, computer, or television if you happen to miss a class or don’t feel like joining it at the scheduled time. Everything is done in the privacy of your home, and no gym membership is necessary.

Nutrition

Along with all the classes they provide, Openfit also emphasizes the nutritional aspects of wellness and weight loss. Although the majority of weight loss comes from what you are feeding your body, many people make the mistake of focusing only on their workouts and ignoring their eating habits. With their customized meal plans and nutrition advice, Openfit tries to make knowing what to eat, when to eat, and how much to eat as simple as possible.

Meal plans are broken up into different categories, just like workouts, and they sometimes even directly relate to the particular workout you prefer to do. You can sort all of the plans according to their color-coded system, or you can just stick with the one that Openfit recommends for you based on the questionnaire you are required to complete.

You will have a choice of one breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day in addition to two snacks. Before using the app, you can let it know about any dietary restrictions you may have, and it will make sure that no recipes are ever presented to you that contain those ingredients. If you receive a recipe that you don’t like, Openfit makes it simple to switch it out for another that is more to your taste by simply tapping on it.

By simply transferring them over, you can quickly track every meal that is served to you in the app. However, you can manually add that food to your food tracker if you decide to stray from your diet and eat something that isn’t on the list. Macro and micronutrients are counted and tracked, and a breakdown of everything is available both daily and weekly. If you want a more comprehensive program, nutritional plans are advised but not required.

In addition to the recipes that are provided, Openfit also has a store where you can buy extra supplements to support your fitness objectives. They provide pre- and post-workout options, and you can quickly copy all the nutritional data into your tracker.

Community

It can be lonely working out entirely from home, so it’s crucial to have access to a supportive network to keep you on track and motivated. You can meet people to chat with and share advice with by making connections with people who share your goals.

With the help of their built-in messaging service, Openfit makes it simple to communicate with both your trainer and other members. You can message the instructor directly during a class by tapping on their name, which will open a messaging window for you.

Although trainers might not be able to respond in the middle of the workout, they will reply as soon as they can access the chat. This enables you to inquire about anything related to your workout, such as how to do something, and ask for clarification if necessary.

You can also tap on someone’s name and send them a direct message if you want to chat with someone in your class. It’s a great way to make new friends and get additional workout advice from people who are doing the same thing as you.

To help them stay on track and hold themselves accountable, some people use this feature to find a virtual gym buddy. Alternatively, enroll with a friend and attend classes together, encouraging one another via text messages.

How Much Is Openfit Going To Cost?

Openfit costs only $8 per month when paid yearly. This is ridiculously inexpensive in comparison to other fitness apps that provide live classes.

Based on our testing of many of the top fitness apps available, we estimate that the average app with live classes costs $20–$40 per month, which explains why Openfit has drawn so much attention since its release.

Does Their Nutritional Programming Aid In Weight Loss?

Exercise alone isn’t going to allow most people to reach their weight loss and body composition goals, nutrition is a key element to success with any program. When used in conjunction with their workout routines, Openfit’s two straightforward nutrition programs can assist users in achieving their objectives.

You can use the One Min Meal Plan and the Sugar-Free 3 plan with your Openfit subscription. Both plans are designed to help you reach your goals without spending a lot of time planning, tracking, and overanalyzing. For people with limited time, nutrition is streamlined in this article. They really make eating well easier by eliminating the hassle and uncertainty.

In addition, Openfit provides a social media community on Facebook and Instagram where users can interact and share advice, techniques, and recipes. Members of Openfit can support one another in this area and share their weight loss successes.

The Bottom Line

Being physically fit is not easy, and it can be even more difficult if you don’t enjoy going to the gym. Many people experience discomfort or frustration when they are in a gym setting because they are unsure of what to do or how to achieve the desired results.

For $8/month, Openfit is unrivaled if you enjoy adhering to a structured fitness program and would like the added benefit of having meal plans. Although there are other fitness apps that offer live classes that we’ve really enjoyed, it’s difficult to argue with the value, and because of the price difference, it feels a little bit like comparing apples to oranges.
